Cape Town Partnership and CCID named recipient of a 2012 Downtown Merit Award by the International Downtown Association for Leadership and Management of Cape Town CBD, Western Cape.

During its most recent annual conference the International Downtown Association recognised the Central City Improvement District (CCID) of Cape Town and the Cape Town Partnership with a Downtown Merit Award for its work and initiatives related to the urban management of the Cape Town CBD.

The unique cross-sector management model, which is based on partnerships between private property and business owners, provincial and city government, was among ten qualified entries in the category of Downtown Leadership and Management. This category features comprehensive and innovative organisational approaches, projects, or programmes that improved the effectiveness of downtown management organisations.

“The successes gained in the Cape Town CBD in the last decade are the result of effective cross-sector partnerships. The Cape Town Partnership (CTP) and CCID believe that collaboration is fundamental to building sustainable and inclusive urban and economic development of our Central City. Receiving this award is a testament to the efforts made by all our partners in managing our world class CBD,” says Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana, Managing Director of the Cape Town Partnership.

“The CCID and CTP’s collaborative management model received the IDA Merit Award for delivering excellence in downtown management”, said David Downey, IDA President and CEO.  “Each year the IDA Awards Jury recognises organisations that utilize best practices in our industry.  The partnership model is a shining example of excellent downtown management that delivers real results.”
