Last year in June, a sod turning ceremony was held for Moruleng Mall. New Africa Developments (NAD), the dynamic property developer of Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal, told SA Commercial Prop News yesterday that they have officially broken ground in Moruleng for the development of prime regional shopping centre worth R300 million, named Moruleng Mall.

Positioned to meet the growing retail needs of local consumers, the 30,483m2 Mall will be the first of its kind in the area and will accommodate over 800 parking bays. Commuters will be in for a treat with a state of the art onsite taxi rank, servicing both long and short distance routes.

Moruleng Mall is a joint venture by New Africa Developments (NAD) and the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Tribe forming part of the Greater Moruleng Revitalisation Project (GMRP). The project is the brainchild of Kgosi Pilani, and will include the development of a CBD, the Moruleng Sports Complex, tribal offices, sewage treatment plant, residential complex, a hotel and improved road infrastructure.

“We are  not only looking forward to celebrating the opening of Moruleng Mall at the end of November 2013, but also creating more job opportunities within the communities we serve”, comments Corne Claassen, MD of NAD.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Richard Baloyi commented that “the Mall will give the community a facelift – it is encouraging to see that traditional communities can attract powerful, tried and tested developers such as New Africa Developments”.  He added that due to Kgosi Pilani’s vision, services would now be brought to the people.

In an area previously underserviced by shopping, retailers have lined up to satisfy Moruleng’s consumer needs. NAD confirmed that major tenants such as Shoprite, Pick 'n Pay, Edgars, Truworths, Foschini, Ackermans, Jet, Legit, Pep, Pep Home, Pep Cell, John Craig, KFC, Identity,  Markham, Total Sports, Exact, Sportscene and Fashion Express have been secured for the shopping centre.

Moruleng is a densely populated rural area situated on the North-Eastern border of the Pilansberg District in the North West Province. The town is located approximately 65km North of Rustenburg (via the R510) and 30km South of Northam.

The site is located in the heart of the Moruleng town, opposite the Tribal offices. All the roads from the surrounding villages and mines lead to and from the site.
