Festive season booms for Limpopo

Polokwane - Nearly 3 000 more tourists visited Limpopo Wildlife Resorts in December 2012 than the previous year.

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) attributes the increase to a successful festive season campaign, the LTA's tourism strategy and the three-year Domestic Umbrella Marketing Campaign that was launched in July 2012.
 
"We are very elated with the continued signs of tourism growth in the province, as our numbers show that in December 2012, 56 141 people went through Limpopo Wildlife Resorts gates compared to 53 710 in the same period in 2011," said LTA spokesperson Mike Tauatsoala on Wednesday.
 
Reports received from other tourism stakeholders in the province also indicate high occupancy rate during this period.
 
Tauatsoala said the Kruger National Park remained the preferred and prime destination for tourists in the province.
 
He noted that a large number of tourists were locals from Limpopo.
 
"We are pleased by the fact that it is largely the people of Limpopo who tour our province and visit our facilities," said LTA chief executive officer Nocks Seabi.
 
He also thanked the service sector for their professionalism.
 
"The level of service rendered to the tourists will definitely ensure repeated visits to the province in general and facilities in particular, thereby contributing to the economic growth of the province," he said.
 
LTA board chairman Mashilo Matsetela, Seabi and members of the executive management team took time to visit various resorts and other key destinations in the province.
 
"This was to observe and monitor tourist influx while interacting with tourists. I must indicate that most of the tourists interviewed expressed satisfaction with the level of service received at most of the tourism facilities in the province, and we are also content with the situation," said Tauatsoala.
