R23-billion set aside to develop and maintain roads in Gauteng

The transport department says 67 priority projects are currently underway and all projects are set to be concluded in 2030.

The Gauteng Transport department has set aside R23-billion to develop and maintain roads.

This is part of their 10-year development plan.

The private sector is set to contribute more than R5-billion.

The transport department says 67 priority projects are currently underway and all projects are set to be concluded in 2030.

"We will be wearing overalls, patching roads and we will not do it as a once-off, we will do it until the current term comes to an end," says Transport MEC, Jacob Mamabolo.

This initiative, according to Mamambolo, will be taking place every Friday.

Speaking on e-tolls, Mamabolo says that they have submitted a document to government indicating which roads serve the national economy.
