Eastern Cape - October 24th and 25th saw the much-awaited launch of the new Fingoland Mall development in the small town of Butterworth, Transkei.

The building of the centre was a huge step forward for the community and investors alike, as it is few and far between where small and underdeveloped towns are taken notice of for big-money developments such as Fingoland Mall.

The official opening ceremony was held on the 24th of October, where invited guests celebrated the opening of Fingoland Mall by enjoying guest speakers, live entertainment by local church groups and talented school choirs. Thereafter Dr. A S Nkonyeni unveiled the plaque and carried out the ribbon cutting officially opening the Centre for trading.

On the 25th of October, shoppers were treated to music, dance and entertainment to celebrate the Malls opening, with Emcee Tinah Mnumzana (Scandal actress and Butterworth local) offering amazing entertainment and DJ Gami & afro-soul artists, Nateaze getting the crowd going with their hip music and vibey stage personalities. A cultural group added a dash of traditional flavour to the launch, and the enthusiastic crowd were excited by hundreds of branded cap & t-shirt giveaways!

Fingoland Mall’s new shop tenants were spinning with shoppers from the opening at 9am and the buzz just kept on growing throughout the day! There were even a number of retailers that had to order in more stock from East London in order to cope with the demand from shoppers for the fantastic specials on offer.

Fingoland Mall extends over 12700 sq metres, less than half of the total footprint of the mall when complete after the third and last phase is built. There are 44 tenants in the centre, including major national retailers, as well as accommodating no less than 10 micro-businesses that may wish to operate from less informal surroundings. On completion of the third phase, Fingoland Mall is expecting a minimum total of 100 shops.

The development has already created approximately 350 jobs, and by the end of the third phase, the total number of jobs created is expected to reach 1000.

The benefits of the Fingoland Mall for Butterworth are unquantifiable, and with the continued support of both its investors, tenants and shoppers alike; generations to come will continue to reap the rewards.

The launch of Fingoland Mall was an incredible success; a ‘coming together’ of the community and its leaders for a fantastic project that will continue to do great things for the development of those living and working in Butterworth town.
