Newcastle Mall in KZN opens its doors
Newcastle Mall regional shopping centre is a hive of activity ahead of tomorrow’s opening, located in KwaZulu-Natal.
Tenants are putting last minute finishes to their stores and window displays while builders and contractors hurry to clean and clear the way for tomorrow’s onslaught of shoppers looking to capitalize on the many opening specials.
“Life will certainly change for local shoppers, who till now have had to wrestle with the limited facilities, inadequate parking, and restricted trading hours of an over-traded CBD or travel long distances to shopping centres in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Johannesburg” said Centre Manager Hester Malan.
The opening of Newcastle Mall tomorrow will henceforth redefine the shopping experience for people living both within Newcastle, and surrounding towns. With 94 top quality stores spanning food and fashion, furniture and décor, footwear, eyewear, home-wear, sports-wear, audio, electronic, and banking, shoppers can look forward to more choice, quality, and convenience than ever before.
In 2007 developers Zenprop Property Holdings (Pty) Ltd acquired the rights to develop the shopping centre on the 21ha site adjacent to the Black Rock Casino and Hotel, on the corner of Oak Avenue and the Ladysmith Road and within close proximity to the intersection with the N11. Ground works on this R 400m development commenced in January 2011, and with construction progressing well and largely ahead of schedule, Newcastle Mall stands ready and poised to welcome shoppers come 9am tomorrow.
Newcastle Mall offers 94 stores spanning 38 000m2 of air-conditioned retail space. There’s an exceptional line-up of leading South African major retail chains including Woolworths, Checkers, Game, Pick n Pay, and Edgars, a vast array of restaurants, services, and banking institutions alongside a host of local offerings and a sprinkling of international brands.
Newcastle Mall will also play home to several retailers and food operators that are new both to the town and the region at large. These include popular coffee shop franchise, Mug & Bean; Capello’s, a popular Johannesburg-based bistro-lounge; a Fish-Aways and Debonaires combo store; and a new generation Milky Lane / Giramundo combo store providing flamed grilled chicken and delectable ice cream products.
On the fashion front, new-comers include leading international clothing brand, Kurt Geiger, Trappers Trading, Rage Shoes, Bargain Books, American Menswear Lifestyle, and Street Gear. Additional boutique-style outlets delivering the latest in fashion and accessories, as well as a specialized bridal boutique, the latest in eye ware, hair, and beauty products will complete the Mall’s vibrant tenant mix.
Abundant free on site parking together with multiple public transport drop-off points and state of the art security will ensure that shoppers enjoy unhindered access to a world class shopping environment that is clean, safe, and secure. Designated parking for the disabled and mothers with young children has also been allowed for.
While 29 March will be all about shopping, shoppers are also invited to attend our celebrations on Thursday 5 April. Ms Remona Moodley, the 2011 Miss SA 1szt Princess, will be among the list of VIPs attending our launch function, and will be making a public appearance and signing autographs inside the mall during the afternoon on 5 April.
On the evening of 5 April, Newcastle Mall will light up the skies with a fantastic aerial display of fireworks. The display will commence at 7pm and will last approximately 15 minutes. His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelethini will be on hand to depress the plunger and detonate the display, setting the sky above Newcastle ablaze with colour and light. Residents of Newcastle are invited to join us on site in front of entrance 2 to witness the magical display.
We also urge residents within the area to take the necessary precautions with regard to their animals and pets during this time.
