South Africa has yet again proved to be one of the best and well-organised travelling destinations on the African continent, receiving numerous awards at the recent African and Indian Ocean leg of The World Travel Awards.

The coveted accolade, announced last week, follows hot on the heels of Franschhoek's La Residence Hotel being listed by the Business Insider, a business and technology website, as one of the best hotels in the world.

The World Travel Awards, considered the "Oscars of the travel industry", give recognition to hotels "pushing the boundaries of industry excellence".

The Pepperclub Hotel & Spa won the sought-after award ahead of Egypt's Hilton Cairo Zamalek Residences, Kenya's Palacina The Residence & The Suites and Morocco's Palmeraie Village.

South Africa also won Africa's leading destination - Cape Town, Africa's leading tourist destination - Table Mountain and Africa's leading meeting and conference destination - Durban.
