Built Environment mourns the death of Construction Entrepreneur Dr. Thandi Ndlovu

The medical doctor turned construction entrepreneur, tributes continue to pour in for one of the country’s dynamic women, a businesswoman, and activist, Dr Thandi Ndlovu.

The medical doctor turned construction entrepreneur, tributes continue to pour in for one of the country’s dynamic women, a businesswoman, and activist, Dr. Thandi Ndlovu.

Many organizations and leaders have paid tribute to construction entrepreneur Dr. Thandi Ndlovu, who tragically passed away following a car accident that claimed four lives on Saturday.

She was a woman who dared to challenge the status quo venturing into industries that have been male-dominated.

Ndlovu made her name in the construction business and served as the president of the Black Business Council for the Built Environment.

She is considered a pioneer for women in construction, founded Motheo Construction in 1997. The company’s services include social housing, civil construction, water savings technologies, and electrical works. It acquired a grade 9 certificate level from the Construction Industry Development Board.

The South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) describes Dr. Ndlovu as true pioneer, an industry giant, an inspirational leader & a beacon of black excellence. "SAIBPP extends our deepest condolences to the Ndlovu family and the Motheo Construction team"

Black Business Council (BBC) president Sandile Zungu said the Soweto-born Ndlovu had conquered the male-dominated construction and building industry.

“Ndlovu was a patriot, trailblazer and business leader who was adored, revered and celebrated beyond our shores,” said Zungu. 

South African Housing and Infrastructure Fund CEO Rali Mampeule described Ndlovu as a dedicated businesswoman and selfless leader.

"Dr. Thandi paved a way for a lot of women in the industry and she was on a mission to unlock more opportunities for others. She was one of the shining stars in the construction industry, thanks to her 20 years’ experience in the sector,” Mampeule said.
