The annual Retail Design & Development Awards (RDDA) 2011

What is South Africa’s best retail development? Exceptional design and economic success are the ingredients for excellence in property development.

The annual Retail Design & Development Awards (RDDA) 2011, sponsored by Nedbank Corporate Property Finance, is a celebration of shopping centre and retail design excellence. Entries for this South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) initiative are now open and will be accepted until Friday, June 17, 2011.

“Excellent design resolution, a clear overall development goal, responding positively to the environment and market, adopting innovative design and construction solutions and embracing sustainable design and business techniques all embodied in excellent retail design and development,” says Amanda Stops, General Manager of the SACSC.

Entries are considered in four different categories including shopping centres both greater than and less than 20,000sqm, the renovation or expansion of existing centres of all sizes and the store design of any shop or restaurant located in a shopping centre.

Stops notes that a panel of top judges, who are highly recognised and respected in their areas of expertise, will endeavour to identify the leading entries which represent the highest achievements within the retail design industry.  

Entries for the Retail Design Development Awards will be automatically entered into the 2011 Spectrum Awards. The gala event for the Spectrum Awards will be held in October in Gauteng and will host the announcement of the national RDDA Winners across the four categories.

The coveted Spectrum Retail Design and Development Award winner will be recognised on a national level for overall excellence in the industry.

Morningside Shopping Centre scooped the prestigious Spectrum Retail Design and Development Award in 2010, much to the delight of the centre’s architects, MDS Architects and developers, Grapnel Property Group (Pty) Ltd and Flanagan & Gerard Property Development and Investment.
