Steeped in a remarkable legacy of property skill, Sharon Wapnick is set to step into the role of non-executive chairman of leading JSE-listed companies Octodec Investments Limited and Premium Properties Listed from 1 October 2011.

A non-executive director on the boards of Octodec Investments and Premium Properties since 1994, Sharon has a wealth of experience in the property industry. Daughter of outgoing executive chairman Alec Wapnick, Sharon’s interests are further aligned with the companies’ through holdings in both Octodec Investments and Premium Properties.

Sharon is a partner at TWB Attorneys and has extensive experience in high profile commercial, civil and criminal litigation, as well as arbitrations.

She obtained her BA and LLB (cum laude) degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand, and completed articles of clerkship with Moss Morris. She was admitted as an attorney in 1988, and became a partner of Moss Morris in the same year. Sharon was appointed as the deputy chairman of Moss Morris in 2003.

Sharon was instrumental in the recent redevelopment of the cinema complex and adjacent restaurant area of Killarney Mall in Johannesburg, on behalf of Octodec Investments. The property loan stock company’s total investment in the upgrade amounts to R33,8 million and has served to ensure the longevity of this key asset. The redevelopment was launched earlier this year.

“I look forward to serving our investors and working even more closely with the respective boards as well as the team at City Property,” says Sharon. “Knowledge from a lifetime of being in a property family and experience gained will be put to good work in the continued success of Octodec Investments and Premium Properties.”

Jeffrey Wapnick, who has made a tremendous contribution to the growth and development of both Octodec and Premium in his capacity as Managing Director of the companies, will continue in his current capacity.
