Listed Property sector landscape with Leon Allison Part 1

By

Listed property in South Africa continues to deliver distribution growth beyond inflation. The sector delivered strong returns to investors and beat other asset classes at 21.75%, for the last 12 months to the end of February 2012.

Over the past six weeks, nine counters – making up over 60 percent of the R155 billion SA Listed property sector – reported results for the six-month period to December 2011. Together, they delivered a market capitalisation weighted average distribution growth of 6.6 percent, compared to the same period to December 2010.

The South African listed property sector consists of 5 Property Unit Trusts (PUT’s) and 20 Property Loan Stocks (PLS’s). These are companies that manage a portfolio of properties, across the various sectors of the economy – retail, office and industrial. There is a very small residential component.

Jeremy Mansfield at ABN Digital and his expert guest take a closer look at the listed property landscape and investment opportunities in South Africa. Joining Jeremy in studio is Leon Allison, Property Analyst at Macquarie First South.
