Francois Viruly, an independent property economist, talks about his study of the residential property market and his view that better housing can reduce healthcare costs.

The housing construction sector boasts one of the highest employment multipliers in South Africa, and has the potential to significantly address unemployment in the country, according to his research findings released this week.

The housing subsidies announced in the President's State of the Nation Address and the Finance Minister's budget speech may well represent arguably the single biggest policy change to date.
