Keystone Investments is developing a 17,000m² new Makro store in the Arbour Town node located in Amanzimtoti KwaZulu-Natal.

The Arbour Town node is a mixed use development which serves the southern Durban region, it currently consists of the Galleria, an 85,000 m2 regional shopping centre and Arbour Crossing, a 40,000m2 value centre.

This new Makro will replace the current Makro located in Rossburgh. At 17,000m² the Makro will be the largest Makro in KwaZulu-Natal and will significantly widen the primary catchment area of the Arbour Town node to the north as the current Makro draws customers from as far north as Durban central.

The new Makro will be positioned opposite the Arbour Crossing shopping centre on Arbour Road, within close proximity of the N2 highway. This will ensure quick and easy access for shoppers coming from the Amanzimtoti, Durban South and Central areas.

Construction is well underway and the planned opening date is 25 September 2013.

Makro is always looking for smarter ways to have environmental friendly stores and has adopted these methods to ensure the Amanzimtoti store is helping our planet and lowering its carbon footprint.

•    The building will have 259 roof lights allowing the store to operate on a sunny day without the use of major internal lighting.
•    LED lighting will be utilised with motion sensors ensuring lights only turn on as people enter rooms.
•    The air conditioning cooling system uses the latest technology to keep itself cooler for longer with a significant reduction in energy consumption.  The cooling systems make and store ice at night for the next day using only evening off peak electricity.
•    Hot water will be made from waste heat produced by the building chiller system.
•    Being a part of the Arbour Town node, great care will be given to the landscaping, with the planting of trees, shrubs and lawns, not only helping the planet but softening the appearance of this large retail building

Keystone Investments said the opening of this Makro promises to have a positive effect on our community, enhancing the shopping experience as well as creating employment opportunities in the area.
